Our work for Primary Schools
Theatre Alibi tours its work for children to Devon and Plymouth primary and special schools every autumn, reaching around 11,000 children each year. We also tour larger scale productions for children to theatres across the country, which are attended by schools and families. To accompany shows we produce Teacher’s Notes, which suggest ideas for follow-up work in the areas of drama, creative writing and speaking and listening.
What Teachers Say:
One of the best touring shows I’ve seen in many years. The performances were fantastic, the music and drama worked brilliantly together and the set was wonderful. The story had many levels that made it accessible to a wide age range
LADYSMITH JUNIOR (on How to Hug Trees)
Staff and children find your performances memorable and inspiring
KINGSBRIDGE PRIMARY (on How to Hug Trees)
Our children really enjoyed the show and very good resources were provided for follow-up work
BRADLEY BARTON PRIMARY (on How to Hug Trees)
Outstanding – what more can I say! Theatre Alibi shows are always excellent and fantastic value for money
WEST ALVINGTON PRIMARY (on How to Hug Trees)
The show was fantastic. From the beginning the children were engaged with the action and entertained at all levels. The Teacher’s Notes were also very well received by staff
SOUTH TAWTON PRIMARY (on How to Hug Trees)
We all thought the show was superb and were transported to a magical world. Everything was high quality and quite brilliant. It was a totally enriching experience for our children
EXBOURNE PRIMARY (on How to Hug Trees)
In my eleven years of teaching The Crowstarver stands out as the most thought-provoking, emotionally charged and successful play I have seen. The standard of acting was superb. My pupils have commented on almost every aspect of the play, which reflects the depth and complexity of the subject and performance
JOSCA’S SCHOOL (on The Crowstarver)
My pupils thoroughly enjoyed it and were spellbound throughout. They particularly loved the way in which the animals were portrayed, the fantastic puppets and the very clever set. Your education pack is excellent too
ST MARGARETS SCHOOL EXETER (on The Crowstarver)
A fantastic show, much enjoyed by all of us, pupils and staff alike. It linked with things we’ve been working on like the Second World War and how we deal with people who are different from us.
BASSETS FARM PRIMARY (on The Crowstarver)
An excellent production. So wonderful that children in such isolated communities have the opportunity to see live theatre
BURRINGTON PRIMARY (on Bonjour Bob)
Outstanding. I cannot begin to list all of the curriculum and project links that can come from this. For our children and staff to see such high quality work will have a huge effect on standards of commitment, learning and teaching and results in heightened expectations of everyone
SALCOMBE PRIMARY (on Bonjour Bob)
All our pupils have a learning disability. Theatre Alibi’s mix of action, inspired props, the visual prompt, music and close interaction with the audience is ideal. You never fail to keep our pupils transfixed for the whole hour, even pupils who normally have very short attention spans. You are also an inspiration to teachers who leave with lots of new ideas
